Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Custom Map
- I tried to recreate the feel of the map 'Slums' from the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 by Treyarch
- In this iteration, I learnt how to use game play limitations to make a map that is good for competitive interactions
- For example, since the maximum running speed is capped at a constant value for everyone, there can exist 'the Middle' which is equally distant from both the team spawns
- Another example is 'Choke points', areas of the map which are narrow and have multiple paths leading to them. These areas connect different adjacent areas of the map, so that players can frequently encounter players at the Choke points and induce tactical and strategic action
- In this iteration, I learnt the importance of the heights of the walls that surround the player in first-person, its only consequential to us living our lives in first-person. Instinctive game play is rewarded more in first-person game play
- For example, when we turn our back against the wall while moving in an alley because we know that the wall will not attack us from behind, we are rewarding real-life instincts of feeling safe
